A world separated by lockdowns, social distancing, the rule of six, 10pm curfews, face masks and political agendas to kill the elderly Vs a planet in an environmental crisis as our globes temperature increases. A worldwide pandemic is most likely to catch our human races attention, but what if the global warming crisis dwarfs the tragedy we have come to know as the Corona Virus?

Enthused by a human race pulling together to save lives during the spread of Covid-19, Prince William hopes that "If we can provide the same motivation with the environment we will have truly turned a corner." But for that to truly happen, the Government need to do more in educating people to act fast and restrict the damage caused to our Earth.

The concern for the planet is growing as the days pass by but yet becoming a little more irrelevant to our race each time environmentalists publish a cry for help. Why?

The tragedy of the global warming crisis escalates just as rapidly as the Covid-19 killer but without wiping out a noticeable proportion of people within a short period of time, environmental issues are left to build up, causing an increase in problematic activity between:

  • The global temperature rising and the death of animals and their habitats

  • Hurricanes are likely to become stronger and floods and droughts are likely to become more common, affecting an entire world

  • Mosquitos thrive in heat. Diseases such as Mosquito born malaria will spread, continuing to affect those poorest in the world with little health care to prevent these diseases, just as we have seen with Covid-19

The death toll of a hurricane or malaria is not used as a tactic to scare monger a population, unlike the novel Corona Virus. But why? According to Fact/Myth Malaria is actually one of the biggest killers in human history killing "a million a year despite modern medicine."

It is estimated that up to 10,000 people die each year due to hurricanes and the World Health Organisation estimates that: "between 290,000 and 650,000 people die worldwide every year from influenza-related causes."

The tragedy that the Virus has caused is in fact heart-breaking and the amount of people affected is exponential but we do, at some point have to question the Governments ideals.

Although it is a fact that the Corona Virus has killed citizens, interrupted human life and disrupted the economical flow, the millions that the government claimed the Virus has taken worldwide, is not entirely true, so how do we know the death rate is accurate for the United Kingdom alone?

We do not. The death rate of Corona Virus is in fact lower than government statistics shared online. The main factor being that those who have recovered from the virus and died because of a heart attack or other underlining circumstances have been added to the statistics concerning Corona-Virus deaths and the death certificates according to Dr John Lee, writing for The Spectator.

Although Covid-19 has wiped out a vast amount of citizens around the world, other pressing issues are ignored due to mass panic and concern worldwide, blurring the lines between truth and corruption.

Robert Redfield, the Director of the Centre for Disease Control said: "suicides and drug overdoses have surpassed the death rate for COVID-19 among high school students."

Scientists at the U.N. convention on Biological diversity concluded: "Every day, up to 150 species are lost.” That could be as much as 10 percent a decade."

An entire species extinct. An entire 150 different species extinct a day. Going my those statistics... that is 54750 species extinct a year. Roughly estimated by Scientists at the U.N convention on Biological diversity though it is between "18,000 and 55,000" species extinct in a year.

Do you think the figure is important enough now? The Corona Virus, although serious as it may be, has not caused mass distinction of human beings... global warming however, is doing exactly that. We are contributing to the distinction of roughly 150 species a day.

According to The World Wildlife Organisation: By 2050 rising sea levels will have affected "1 Billion people", heat waves will affect billions of people every 5 years and even more frequent as time goes on, precipitation increases, leading to an increase in rainfall and floods, killing those most vulnerable and species will become extinct.

Prince Charles alerted the nation that global warming is "rapidly becoming a comprehensive catastrophe that will dwarf the impact of the coronavirus pandemic". We do not have time to sit complacently waiting for environmentalists to save our future. The world needs to act now before we cannot reset the mistakes being made and create a more sustainable life.
